*History
In NIHON SHOKI, it is described that from ancient times, KII-NO-KUNI(KUMANO DISTRICT) had formed the oldest nation. This nation includes IWADE has been early developed with the settle of IZUMO TRIBE.
The location was close to YAMATO CHOTEI (ancient Government of Japan ), KII has been closely related with Central Government for a long time.
In Kokubu Shou (National Manor), that lies across IWADE City and KINOKAWA City, as one of the first KOKUBUNJI TEMPLEs in Japan, KOKUBUNJI TEMPLE was built, then prospered early.
During Medieval period, NEGORO TEMPLE as the Head Temple of SHINGHI SHINGON SHU, a sect of Buddhism, had powerfully influenced Japan, with KOYASAN, OHDA GROUP and SAIKA GROUP.
Until destroyed by TOYOTOMI HIDEYOSHI, IWADE existed as a symbolic district as an Armed Religious Wealthy district with College, just like Vatican, ROME. Negoro Temple’s power reached to even KISHIWADA , OSAKA.
In Edo period, KII became the Domain of KISHU, as a territory of TOKUGAWA-GOSANKE (Three Families of SHOGUN), KISHU steadily prospered.
In Meiji period, under a new national law, small villages called IWADE- no-SHO, became Iwade Mura(village), Yamasaki Mura, Negoro Mura and Kami- Iwade Mura. Then in 41, Iwade became CHO (town)
In 1951, these villages were combined to big Iwade Cho. At this time, the population was 13, 261, but after this, it increased more and more.
In 2006, Iwade became ‘City’ that has been eagerly expected for a long time.
Hereafter, the City will be a new gate town of Wakayama Prefecture, and should be prospered as a center city in KIHOKU(Northern Wakayama).
*Location
Iwade City located in the Northern part of Wakayama Prefecture.
From the center of Wakayama city, it’s about 15 km, From Osaka it’s about 50 km, From Kansai International Air Port it’s about 30 km.
North is neighboring SEN-NAN or HAN-NAN City, West is neighboring Wakayama City and South East is neighboring KINOKAWA City.
Being blessed with access to every directions, from Osaka and Kansai International Air Port, Iwade is via City to Wakayama City.
Area covers 38.50 km2.
*Topography
In the South of the city, in the alluvial plains by river terraces of KINOKAWA RIVER, urban and rural district are spreading.
At the end of the South, famous KINOKAWA RIVER is flowing from East to West.
At the Northern part of the city, IZUMI Mountains lie from East to West, and the East is getting higher and covered with deep forests.
The climate is similar to the Inland Sea weather, the precipitation a year receives 1,300～1,400 mm on average, compared with other districts in the Prefecture, it’s a little few.
Temperature is 16～17℃ a year on average, comparatively mild.
*The Principal Products
Making the best use of the location close to the big cities, floriculture like carnations, stocks, foliage plant are vigorous.
★Carnation : Iwade City is famous as the producing place of flowers. Above all, carnation is cultivated on a large scale, mainly shipped to KANSAI market, just like Osaka.
★Negoro Daito(Pepper) : A little bigger than a variety of green pepper, the taste is milder than usual pepper, so consumers love this pepper.
