Shrines

6 shrines are in the city, where can take a therapeutic walk in those forests.
Ohmiya Shrine is famous with its Yomisashi Festival, when people compete with in getting Sakaki twigs which is believed as to protect you from evils or dangers.

By its history,  in 712,  enshrined the spirit of dead YAMATO TAKERU(one of the gods in Japanese Myth ).
Later, KOGYO-DAISHI KAKUBAN deified this as a guardian spirit for Negoro Temple,and named SANBU GONGEN SHRINE.
This shrine is renowned for its ability to fulfill the wishes of worshippers.
So, on the first Saturday in every October, lot’s of visitors come to join YOMISASHI FESTIVAL.

Yamasaki- jinja(Ichihime-jinja)

There is a legend, that in 1118, when TOBA JOKO( Emperor) encountered danger here around, on the way to KUMANO-SANZAN from NEGORO, Great Ichihime(princess)appeared and saved the Emperor.

Kami-Iwade-jinja(Hakusan jinja)

This shrine locates in on the way to the south from BODAI-TOGHE.
Founded in 701, when TAIHOU-RITSURYO was enacted.
This shrine was burned in 1585 with Negoro Temple, later rebuilt.
The inner shrine is specially historic, designated a Cultural Property of the Prefecture.

AMATERASU-OHMIKAMI(one of the goddesses in Japanese Myth) is deified.
Was the biggest shrine in this district, but burned in the war of Tensho, as well
As Negoro Temple, then partly rebuilt.
Some ancient lanterns keep the vestige used to be.

Funatsu- Yahata -jinja

Funatsu- Yahata -jinja

The grove of this shrine is between NISHI-KOKUBU and OKADA.
Quiet with ancient trees, good for relaxation when stroll down the country side.

Sakamoto- jinja

Sakamoto- jinja

Imamiya Daimyo -jin , Mifune Myojin and Sangu Daimyo-jin are installed here together.
The precincts has 1,243 –Tsubo, on the east hill next to Ju-ji- ike.
Surrounded with the grove, can imagine the vestige used to be.
